If I were King / Queen

I thought I would start a topic that sorts of seems to be a hot bed right now.... The Fourth of July Celebration.

It seems some of you have issues / ideas that might be a benefit... Lets put them here. If you have a complaint, how about suggesting a remedy:

Here's mine:
Not much going on besides people wandering around lost.

Next year have a competition cook off -

Chili
AND
Bar-B-Que.

Let both run for a couple years and see which one gets a better response. then either cancel the lesser one and concentrate on the other OR keep them both.

Taste Judges could be members of the community like the fire chief for the chili (who knows chili better than firemen!?) Plus some other judges - I'm sure we have some chefs here who can judge.

Put the adds for the competition on line, in the papers, do community announcements on major radio and television stations, these are usually free for the air time. The more competitors we have the larger the event.

So what other ideas are out there?

How about some good ol fashioned FAMILY games, like father daughter/son whatever , 3-leg race or potato sac races - along with a chili cookoff, which I think is a must! Games like that that will get families and individuals involved! They should stop trying to be politically correct and just think COMMUNITY.
I will volunteer for next years committee.

and why do all the vendor tents have to be the same? I know for the uniformity look, but what happened to a colorful back drop of red, green, blue awnings over each indivual booth? Then when the park is full of people cooking off their best chili recipie, you could tell your buds, I'll meet you by the red/black/purple patchwork tent in 20 minutes. :P
