Free Flu Vaccinations for the Community
Solano County, Sutter Health, Touro University and Walgreens
team up to help keep residents healthy
WHO: Residents Invited to obtain free flu shots via special community clinics.
WHY: The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) states that more than 200,000 people in the U.S. are hospitalized for flu every year and typically around 50,000 die from flu. This fall, we will face a flu season like no other. As influenza and COVID-19 are separate viruses, there is a risk of contracting both simultaneously. According to the CDC and Prevention, people already in a high-risk category (i.e. the elderly, those with underlying health conditions) infected with both viruses have increased chances of being hospitalized with potentially severe complications.

INFO: Clinics will take place rain or shine. All clinics are drive-thru clinics. Drivers are asked to remain in their vehicles. Patients are required to wear face coverings and are asked to consider wearing short sleeves so they can receive the vaccine with greater ease. For those who do not have access to a vehicle, accommodations will be made to administer their vaccination in alignment with masking and physical distancing requirements as established by the County. No pets allowed. Flu vaccine quantities are limited and each clinic will remain open until the event’s supplies are exhausted. Approximately 90-100 vaccinations will be available per event.

GROUND: Solano County, Sutter Health, Touro University and Walgreens are proud to team up and offer vaccinations to the local community. Influenza vaccines were donated courtesy of Walgreens. Sutter supports The Touro University Mobile Diabetes Education Center (MOBEC), which provides Solano County residents with diabetes screenings and education. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sutter and Touro worked together to repurpose the MOBEC’s capabilities to administer flu vaccinations in Solano County.
"We believe that all people should have access to quality healthcare services--including access to things like a flu vaccination,” said Jay H. Shubrook D.O., professor and director of clinical research and diabetes services at Touro University California. “We know that when residents have access to critical, preventative healthcare services, the overall health of a community is improved."
“The flu vaccine not only helps prevent people from getting
from the flu, but also helps stop the spread of the disease,” said Kelley Jaeger-Jackson, chief nursing executive at Sutter Solano Medical Center in Vallejo. “The vaccine remains one of our best defenses, in addition to frequent hand-washing and covering our faces when we sneeze or cough.”CONTACT: Jay.Shubrook@tu.edu or 707-638-5999
