We all have a vested interest.

OldButVoting---It is refreshing to read something from someone who has a broader perspective and sees the bigger picture. Part of the problem we've had are city council members with very narrow and/or self-serving agendas.

As you clearly recognize, a town, neighborhood, etc., that is desirable in all the obvious sort of ways and offers residents a high quality of life also benefits ALL residents regardless of where they live in that town. This is especially true in a smaller town such as ours.

Given our very unique situation with regards to how we are geographically disbursed, and the limited amount of land we have available to develop for recreational, retail, and pedestrian uses, we are far more negatively impacted when poor choices are made. We literally do not have the ability to "absorb" any mistakes made with regards to development.

We are still defining our image and place within Napa County. We are a new town, and good or bad, all that is visible as people drive down Hwy 29 is what they will use to form their impression of Am Can.

Regardless of what neighborhood any of us live in, most of us are concerned and vested in seeing that our property values are maintained. It is the largest, single investment most of us make. I hope we will not be sorry we invested in Am Can.

The reason why I removed your post was because of the subject line not the message. The subject you used previously was "Coffey wins, shops at walmart!", but now you've changed it to something reasonable. If you dont like the forums or how I run things then dont use them, simple as that.

I have known Cindy Coffey for 3 months now. She is a very honest and forthright person. She says what she means and does what she says. If you had taken the time out and had a conversation with Cindy you would find this out. Thousands of voters are backing Cindy because she is the only one who has asked our opinion and is listening to our cries.

Cindy has a compassion for our older residents and wants to see more recreation for our children. Even at the last City Council meeting she was helping the mobile home residents and helped them secure an attorney so they could form a homeowners association. When a man from one of the mobile home parks became suddenly ill Cindy stayed near him and his family until the emergency crews arrived.

Before you speak in any forum you should get the facts. By the way I have been a registered voter since moving to American Canyon and have attended several city council meetings and have been treated rudely by our Mayor Lori Luporini. With God's grace she will be gone after today.
None of the other candidates have invited me nor anyone I know to an event. Nor have the come a knocking on my door. I received 5 flyers, 3 from Maguire, 1 from Joan Bennett and 1 from Lori Luporini. In reviewing these flyers it looks like these candidates took their verbage from Cindy's Website.

Maguire along with Coffey Best Choice

Post by acresident »

Maguire is the best choice for Council, along with Coffey. Anyone who reseached the candidates would come to that conclusion.

Bennett didn't run again because she would have lost, as she was not supported by most of the residents. She is part of the "good ol network".

Curry was out the other day with a sign saying " will work for votes" which hardly seemed council like. He has complains all the time in the paper.

Callison was behind and oversaw this Wal Mart disaster.

Luporini is accused of being dishonest and in bed with Wal Mart, which if true, is unfortunate. She has served 8 years, and as the old show says, 8 is enough.

Marcus is clueless.

Russell is a businessman who has all his support from the mobile home park where he lives.

Knight comes from Oakland and we don't need Oaklands opinions or problems here.

Reyes is ill, and probably couldn't serve if elected anyway.

Coffey and Maguire should be on our council by tonight. They are the best choice.

Sorry I disagree with you in regards to Mcguire. The "Corporation sold the Liquor license" because of low sales. The casino still has a beer & wine license. At any rate it just doesn't matter. The fact of the matter is listening to Mcguire's comments he basically reviewed Cindy's Website. Mcguire at the last city council meeting initially came out against the apartment complex then turned and supported the apartment complex for Hwy 29 & American Canyon Rd. Which is going to increase traffic. The apartment complex is supposed to have low income housing and his suggestion was to ask for more money from the developers to opt out of having low income housing. I voted and he was not checked on my box.

Stacy, You are completely inaccurate, and seem to spread disinformation all about. Were you at that meeting? Did you see it on TV? Because apparently you just were not paying attention AT ALL.

First, there was nothing about this apartment complex at the last city council meeting for which you claim Maguire was against it. Why do I say that; Because it has never been in front of the council...it was at the planning commission meeting, and this was the first time it had ever come up before the city commission. So right there, it is obvious you just fabricate stuff.

The property has a earthquake fault going right through the center of it. It has a power easement which cannot be built under. The meeting was to change the zoning from commercial to high density residential. There was about 6 days notice for the meeting.

Maguire objected to the short notice, and said it was a problem.

Maguire asked for additional low income housing because the developer asked for 18 units per acre instead of 16. Since the project will have another 20 or so units with this VARIANCE in density, Magire suggested that the commission ASK FOR ANOTHER 4-5 units of dedicated moderate income housing, since LORI LUPORINI burdened the city with a good portion on the counties low income housing. He recognized this will be a problem that we have to face, and point blank told the commission if they are going to give something, get something.

Second, Maguire asked that the commission NOT APPROVE A CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY for the development until BROADWAY WAS RE ALIGNED AND AC ROAD WAS WIDENED! What that means is no one can move in until Broadway is realigned with a light, and AC Road is widened.

Third, Maguire asked for the complex to be GATED, to keep out riff raff out of the complex using the pool and other facilities.

Finally, the reason Maguire and Coffey look similar in views, is because they have similar views............duh. And if you watched the forum, or read the paper, just about all the candidates have similar view points on the issues, and what the issues are. BECAUSE THE ISSUES ARE OBVIOUS!

The question is, who will get it done.

Now, did you say you were at the commission meeting, or did you watch it at home. Perhaps you were watching a different meeting.

Maguire is clearly the other choice. By the way, who was at that planning commission meeting? Coffey and Maguire. Coffey spoke, then Maguire spoke.

Get your facts straight.

SHE'S A FRENCHY! SHE TALKS ABOUT HER DOG NAMED 'PARIS' IN THE NAPA-SOLANO POST IN EVERY EDITION. SHE FREQUENTLY TRAVELS TO EUROPE. ALL I SEE IS A WIMPY FRENCHY. I'LL TAKE A SUCKY AMERICAN POLITICIAN (LUPORINI) OVER A WHITE-FLAG WAIVING FRENCHY ANY DAY.

Silly child! Her dogs name is Paris and she doesn't travel Europe all the time. Cindy is a hard worker like the rest of us. And as for the Planning Commission meeting, Cindy was besieged by her supporters, but spent a majority of her time answering calls from people mobile home park who couldn't make it to the meeting and was talking to a group of mobile home people. This is what happens when you overhear portions of conversations or take things of context. Get your facts straight please.

So who's the new Mayor???

Post by merryjester »

Can't stand the suspense, folks...someone fill me in! I know a lot of the denizens of this message board aren't strangers to the inside of the City Council room, so I know someone out there has the skinny on last night. How did it go?

My wife and I were going to show up but had to make a last-minute emergency trip to Napa for some food and fun. You know how it is. Priorities. \:D/

Seriously, would love anyone who was there last night to give their impressions of the proceedings, etc.

Thanks!

The new Mayor and Vice Mayor will not be voted on until the next meeting. All of those items were continued until the 16th due to some new law. Stay tuned for that date. Any preferences? Other than voting for our own of course.

The only preference I would have is that there's a change from the present situation. Unlike lots of others on this forum, my feelings for the current mayor aren't overflowingly vitriolic...although if half of the rumor mill is to be believed, I'm sure I could get there...but anyway, at the meetings I've been to, I've been extremely underimpressed by her dismissive, condescending style. My wife and I left the first meeting we attended shocked that our new town's Mayor (we just moved here a month ago) could be so rude and full of herself.

If I had my druthers, I would see either the current City Manager or the City Attorney be Mayor (at least when they speak, they do so fairly and intelligently), but I'm sure there's yet ANOTHER law against THAT... ;-)

Thanks for the update anyway. Any sparks fly on the 2nd? Did Coffee get sworn in or did an earthquake or plague of locusts happen or something? Or maybe this "law" that kept the new mayor from being voted in kept Coffee from taking her chair, too? And maybe this "law" will be enacted every two weeks for the foreseeable future?? I can see it now...

"Next item on the agenda....the swearing in of Councilwoman-Elect Coffee"

"Um....yyyyyyyyeah. Doesn't that law come into play again here?"
