Some Legal Sites for self help regarding California Laws

Post by ACPD Brownlee »

I am posting a few web sites that anyone can use to research California Laws.

The first site is the California Department of Motor Vehicles Site. It is the California Vehicle Code and the sections that pertain to traffic, vehicle equipment and generally anything that you can tow, ride or drive:

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/vc.htm

To use the site, just click on the first letter of what you want information on... Such as "T" for turns or turning......

Another site:

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html

Can be used to search any Calif. Code by topic or keyword. Knowing which code to search may be tricky, so here are some general guides...

If it relates to people doing criminal acts, such as battery, thefts or other crimes against people or property, then search the Penal Code.

Traffic issues are in the Vehicle Code,

Drugs and Alcohol violations and laws are found in the Health and Safety and Business and Professions Codes,

Most child (Minors under the age of 18) care and child criminal laws are found in the Welfare and Institutions Code...

And if all else fails, check all the codes and search them by your keyword....

Your keyword will appear in different section in Bold Type......

Hope this helps..........

For those of you that want info on your County Codes, you can access them through the Napa County Website at:

http://www.co.napa.ca.us/

American Canyon and Yountville have adopted most of these codes as Muni Codes, plus they each have specific City Codes as they pertain to each city.
