AMERICAN CANYON - The City Council tonight may vote on whether to buy a parcel at 4391 Broadway that would allow the city to expand its offices.
In May 2007, the council authorized the purhase of an office building at 4381 Broadway to serve as the new City Hall. Since then, an easement has been sought to provide access to the property across the adjacent parcel.

The council has delayed a vote on buying the .87-acre vacant parcel several times while negotiations take place.

An independent appraisal of the property was also sought.

The purchase price is $1,075,000.

City staff have said the parcel would allow the city to expand its nearby offices and would also help alleviate potential parking issues.

The parcel fronts Napa Junction Road near its intersection with Highway 29 and is immediately adjacent to the site of the new City Hall, which will be housed in an existing office building.

In other matters, the council will hold a public hearing on extending a tentative map for the Napa Junction Apartments for one year, to June 1, 2009.

City Manager Richard Ramirez will report on affordable housing issues.

The public portion of the council meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at 2185 Elliott Drive. In a closed session starting at 5:30 p.m., council members will discuss litigation and property negotiations.

I will be looking forward to the vote............
