Cindy Coffey doesnt have a clue

Post by concerned resident »

If you have checked Cindy Coffeys campaign website you will learn she doesnt have a clue to this city.

Coffey states that the City contracts with the Napa County Sheriffs Department for eight Officers and one Sergeant, who is the acting Police Chief. WRONG. There are ten Patrol Officers (one with a K-9), one Motorcycle Officer, one Community Resource Officer, one Police Technician, two Sergeants, and one Lieutenant (who is our Police Chief). There are also several Police volunteers.

Coffey states that there are three separate law suits against the City regarding its police force, and suggests that having their own department they wont get sued. WRONG. Anyone can file a law suit, and it is not uncommon with other cities being sued. Just because she wants American Canyon to have it's own police force doesnt mean they wont be sued.

Coffey states there is no where to complain or for accountability towards its police officers. WRONG. The American Canyon Police Department has a front counter and supervisors that the public can turn to if they have a complaint. Coffey also says that the kids should not be afraid of, or harassed by the police officers. In no way is anyone being threatened or mistreated.

Coffey states she would like a City owned police department so the officers would get to know your families better? That the entire force would be familiar with the community? She wants the police department to be part of the community? WRONG. The Napa County Sheriffs Department have patrolled this part of the County since 1850. How long has Coffey lived here? The Officers that work in American Canyon know this community and the residents. She would rather kick out the Sheriff's Department who have been dedicated to this City and hire a whole new group that knows nothing about the area or it's residents.

Coffey also talks about a new school district and we should call it the American Canyon Independant School District. WRONG. The Napa Valley Unified School District is very well known as a highly exceptional schoold district. People from all over want their children to go to Napa schools because they are top notch. No, Coffey wants to disband the school district like she does the police department. Can you believe it? Not wanting to be apart of the prestigious Napa Valley Unified School District?

I would like to be nice, but this lady is out of control. And if you have one of her signs in your front yard, then you too could be out of control. Think about it people.

CHECK YOUR FACTS

Post by napaseller »

NOTICE: i think everyone is entitled to their opinion, even tho it may be wrong.
however, i do agree with you on one thing - check the source. i believe it is the duty of everyone voting to check "their" own facts that goes for all candidates, incumbent or new.

Well, you are wrong about Cindy Coffey. I think that the people who are out of control are Paulette Griffen and Simone Shipman and that whole group of cronies. They have started rumers about Cindy Coffey that just simply are not true. Thay have never met the woman and have no idea what she is about. Why bad mouth someone when you don't know her? Better yet, why do you believe these things when they are coming from the mouths of the women I mentioned above? They are clearly the ones you'd better watch out for. They are dangerous.
Why don't you try and meet with Cindy? Then make your mind up about her issues. You are so quick to judge, yet you are uneducated. In saying you are uneducated, I mean about her issues and what they are really about. Not what you have been told by the group of women who think they own this City. I will vote for Cindy on Nov. 2nd as will most.
Good Luck, it must be hard being that angry.

Oh by the way, I have not 1 but 2 Cindy signs in my front yard. I am not out of control. And as far as the police not harassing the kids? ABSOLUTELY they do. I have seen it first hand. If you don't like what she posted on her website, why don't you ask her about it personally? She has freely given out her contact info. and always returns calls.

I am undecided on whether Am Can would benefit from having their own police dept. I have read/heard good arguments on both sides of the issue.

I do know that our City Council needs "new blood", and representatives who are more progressive and willing to run counter to the old and tired ways in spite of any backlash they may experience from the usual suspects.

Cindy Coffey has demonstrated that she is an independent thinker, and she has clearly shown herself to be an action-oriented individual. As best can be evaluated on the basis of her editorials, articles etc., she does seem sincere in her desire to fairly and adequately represent ALL Am Can residents.

I do think Cindy Coffey is one of 2 or 3 of the candidates who have the greatest ability to finally help Am Can realize it's full potential.[/u]

"The main benefit of a city owned police force is officers would get to know you and your families. The entire police force would be familiar with the community. There is no harm in studying the possibility. Let's work to make the police part of our community. "

What is wrong with wanting our police to be a part of our community? I know first hand that the police forse don't care. My husbands car was stolen right out of our driveway. The officer had to be ordered to make a report. He wouldn't have otherwise! We have to call the Napa Sheriffs office when something happens that isn't a 911 emergency. Barking dogs? FORGET IT! I called for months on some dogs in my neighborhood and they did nothing. NEVER came out. My friend's son has been harassed multiple times from police. His mother was on the phone and heard the police officer then when she arrives on the scene, he had a totally different attitude.

As for the majority of people moving here for the schools? YEP, I did. Is Cindy a bad person for wanting our own school district? No. I am not sure if I agree with it, but i by far do not think it is a stupid idea. There are quite a few schools in Napa that didn't make the requirements last year. What does that tell you? Why can't we, American Canyon strive for something better?
She believes in smart growth. Not no growth, not fast growth, but SMART growth. That means making sure we get the right stores in here, not the likes of a relocated Walmart store.

Again, I will be voting Cindy Coffey for City Council. And as for you attitude calling the Cindy Coffey supporters clueless? No, you my friend are clueless and un educated. Have a nice day.

It is so obvious that this "concerned citizen" is one and the same who is attempting to slander Cindy Coffey in the press. If she is so bad why are are most organizations endorsing her campaign?

If she was anti-big box why has her husband worked for one for the last 15 years?

As for the school district, yeah I am tired of selling gift wrap and cookie dough and why should we? We are supporting the rest of the district, I say let's look at the possiblity of doing our own district we certainly pay for a variety of other studies in this city.

As for a new resident, guess what, people who have lived here for five years or less make up more than half of the voter registration. The newer residents are becoming active as they should and be welcomed in doing so. As for the candidate forum tonight, even though you could tell she wasn't feeling well and her voice was cracking, Cindy Coffey clearly showed she has the organization, information, and finesse to serve on the city council.

As for me I have lived here over twenty years, I grew up here. I am tired of the city being labeled a slum. I want some status with American Canyon and if that means electing newer, brighter, more intelligent candidates then that is what we need. My only problem is that I didn't see anybody else I liked.

Ray was uninformed get off of the convention center gig, that was last year. Bill was begging for votes and unimpressive. Joan was disorganized and not prepared. Brenda was attractive, bright and loud, however she needs a couple of years to get seasoned on our issues. Don was ok, but I am tired of him and Pastor Curry (who is nice) telling us we need to learn the proceedure, I say hey don't lie to us and we can all be happy in the participation process. Paul Maguire well that guy is as slick as a card room owner should be. If he didn't say he was a retired chiropractor at least 10 times I thought he was going to sell us a used car. And as for the Mayor well she tried to be as PC as she could be but she still had the same old body language of rolling her eyes and having that smug look on her face just like in the city council meetings when your trying to explain your situation. We know we need the high school, Lori where is it? The post office is fine it just needs a couple of more employees. And that Safeway, you mean the one you are trying to close down?

Finally, just because Cindy Coffey would like to explore the possibility of our own police department and school district don't you think this was something that was driven by say the more than 400 emails she received through the paper she owns? But then if you spoke to her you would know this. As for the number of officers that is just symantics the fact remains that there is a problem and if you are not aware of it then you are very fortunate but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist right?

As for the bash Cindy Coffey train. Get off of it, you look like a fool as if the other 9 candidates or rather 8 since you obviously support the Mayor don't matter. Once again Cindy Coffey is highlighted as the only candidate who is the strongest opponent, that is why you are targeting her and it is so obvious.

By the way Linda are you a registered voter yet or still a green card holder? Just wondering............[/i]

Cindy Coffey

Last night's candidate forum proved to me Cindy Coffey is the only choice for city council. It was quite evident that Cindy's opponets reviewed her website as they were singing her sentiments. Some went so far as to even repeat verbatim Cindy's words. Cindy is in tune with all the residents of American Canyon and seems willing to yield to the will of the people. Which will be a refreshing change.

Brenda Knight was a boistorius speaker and she almost had my other vote until she said one thing "We need more multi-cultral events held in the city so we can learn about each others culture." I don't know where she lives, but Poppy Meadows is a very diverse sub-division and for three years now we have not had a problem enjoying each others food and friendship. The only racism I know of is handful of long time residents and members of the city council who are enjoying the fruits of are high property taxes and have repeatedly told us new residents don't have a voice.

Maguire kept mentioning how he was a chiropracter and managed many facilities, but never mentioned once that he is the owner of Napa Valley Casino and has been trying to expand it to add slot machines.

Don Callison was interesting to listen to, but after reviewing the planning commission initial approval of a blank slate for the phase 2 of Napa Junction there is no way in heck I would vote for him in any position. It was irresponsible.

Joan Bennett, Ray Marcus, Bill Russell, Lori Luporini and Morris Curry just didn't seem to have a clue what the needs of the people are.

It was unfortunate Sam Reyes could not attend because of an illness. I would have liked to heard his comments. It was nice of his son to read a prepared statement. I will have to try and contact him to get more information.

Grow up old AC

Post by Sabrina (Kresha) Redfield »

I have lived in American Canyon my entire life. This community was at one time a family, a small town, proud of who we were and where we lived. Times have changed, our small town is growing, new neighbors are moving in. I would like to know what happened to the citizens of old Am Can? The ones that welcomed new neighbors and made them feel at home. Oh that's right there is only 2 or 3 of you left and you know who I'm talking about. EXCUSE ME! but there are alot more of us old AC out there. Who died and made you think (term used loosely) you spoke for us all. I can speak for my self and I say it is time for a change in our city government. We need someone who actually listens and when you ask a question you get an answer. I want this community to be a family again. The only way to do that is to elect someone who wants the same. THAT PERSON IS CINDY COFFEY.
To the 2 or 3 of you out there that think you are Am Can, GROW UP! Open your eyes "Change is coming".
CINDY COFFEY IS FOR THE COMMUNITY, OF THE COMMUNITY AND SOON TO BE BY THE COMMUNITY!

Choose & Vote Very Carefully!

Post by Yardley »

We need to have City Council members who are progressive with a broader vision for our future, who have specific goals for the improvement of Am Can, and who have the willingness to take and publicly state their position on controversial issues.

Equally important, our City Council needs to be fair and impartial in their decision making. You cannot please all residents 100% of the time, but you certainly can make every resident feel that their say matters to you and was considered.

We cannot afford to have anymore City Council members with narrow agendas that are counter productive to improving Am Can and creating a true Gateway to the Napa Valley.

In my estimation, Cindy Coffey and Don Callison come closest to meeting all of the above criteria. Ray Marcus lost my vote because he supports the Wal Mart Supercenter. Brenda seems to have a very specific agenda and also supports Wal Mart. Bill Russell also seems to have a very narrow agenda. Paul Maguire does not impress me as someone who can be trusted; I don't care if he's a "retired chiropractor", I'm more concerned that he refers to himself as a businessman/owner without revealing that his business is the Napa Valley Card Room. For a multitude of reasons, including her Wal Mart support, Lori Luporini needs to be retired from office.

People!
What happened to the freedom of choice. There is so much anger in here.
In order for our city to be the hometown I thought most of us have lived here for we must get along. Just agree to disagree and move on. Vote how you feel is best for the City on Nov. 2. Stop trying to slander anyone. If you can't say anything nice then shut up!
I can only think of 1 person that would keep this type of anger going. No matter who or why it started, stop it now. It doesn't look good from any side.
Some of you really need to watch what your saying it isn't that difficult these days to sue persons for their words or repeating of those words theirs or not. And we wonder how come the children have attitudes.
I wonder.....
Just Vote Nov. 2 that is your voice. On Nov 3 we'll know how the residents see the future of our great city. Not the past.
Try to smile and say something nice instead of something to hurt or mar any person.

Cindy Coffey Delivers

Last weeks meeting of the city officials showed once again that Cindy Coffey delivered. I for one was pleased to see her challenge the status quo, and department heads to put up or shut up. She has become the hammer, and it is about time. You go girl!

Total Agreement

I too think it's about time the city staff realizes they can't take advantage. For years I have watched the council "take direction" from the city manager. Guess what the council is starting to take back the power.

I have to wonder what really happened with the whole Wal-Mart thing. I mean it just didn't make sense. Think about it the whole process was too rigid and mechanical. Besides when my neighbor and I checked out the tapes from the supposed meetings that this was approved there was no mention of a big box or a supercenter let alone Wal-Mart.

I smell something fishy and I haven't been to the lake all year.

Thanks to the council for finally fixing the field. I almost lost my five year old in a pot hole.

Actually she does deliver the mail once a month. In the form of a very dry newspaper to the city and beyond.

Your hatefulness is showing and it's not very pretty. Are you the evil poster that keeps getting censored?

So I guess SHE CAN deliver the mail, that shoots down that comment.

Littleleaguedad is right. What went on behind the scenes. We need a citizens group with investigative powers to look into this and get to the truth.

Now that would dirty some diapers around this town!

asleep at the wheel

Post by a/c resident »

I think the council has been asleep at the wheel too. I remember the only action came from Colcleasor and Anderson bucking up. Now it seems like everybody is "paying" attention. Even old habits are changing like the postponement of the document signing at the last meeting.

It was good to see the council stand firm. I know they tried with the map thing with the affordable housing deal. I don't want snappy decisions with this city to happen anymore. I want to see them talk about the ramifications and repercussions of their actions before they take them.

I don't want responses like "before you were here" or "no body wanted to be here before" or "we should accept before they change their minds". Those are preludes to disaster. We are an awesome opportunity for some great businesses. We have to be patient. We as a community are patient however the developers who don't live here want to build us out now while we suffer with traffic and bad infrastructure.

And who besides me is tired of the lip service given by the city staff. "The don't worry we aren't doing that" or "not without your input" or "it will be really planned". blah blah blah what a load of crap. I pity the people that live along Eucalyptus. The next five years will be hell with all of the dirt, dust and noise and don't forget the odor wafting from the sewer plant.

Glad you paid 800k for those beauties. I'll take La Vigne anytime.
