Religion and Politics

Post by ac94503 »

I recently read that the Holy Family Parish may consider trading some land with Mr. Butler in order to pay for a church long desired by the Catholic Community in AC. The land trade for Mr. Butler would mean more apartments. The land trade for Holy Family would mean a church.
I remember Mr. Maguire suggesting that maybe the Holy Family parish might consider selling their property in order to be able to build a church...
Maybe he has some ideas others have picked up on. In regard to the election I hope the church and politics are kept separate in any future votes. (I was raised Catholic and mean no disrespect).

The Devil made me do it

I was wondering if anybody else would notice the “look of impropriety” from a prior council meeting where the Napa Junction 3 project was approved.

AC94503 was right on the money when she declared separation of church and state. Which obviously didn’t occur that night. You see Joan Bennett and Leon Garcia are both very involved in the Holy Family church. This is the church that meets in the local gym on Sundays since the building was practically built.

Apparently due to unfortunate circumstances the church’s building fund to build a church was “stolen, misplaced, or embezzled” the details are unclear from what I am told by friends who attend. So the church has had to start over. No problem there just very sad for the local churchgoers.

They were provided an opportunity to purchase 5 acres from Mr. Newell for a new church location. The very same location that Mayoral candidate Leon Garcia’s campaign manager Victor Rivera was posing at for a past Eagle picture discussing “the terms.”

“The terms” for a church to be built by none other than the developer Lake Street Ventures or Vincent “Buzz” Butler were disclosed in the article. The same developer as Napa Junction 3, who is reportedly is being sued for that development sometime this week according to a buddy of mine at the railroad.

So inquiring minds want to know why wasn’t this disclosed prior to the council members voting? I am not interested in personal favors for any developer, which apparently is still continuing with placement of more signs along Highway 29 on the Napa Junction property. Why hide this instead of disclosing it before you voted?

Mr. Garcia and Buzz Butler have an excellent working relationship. You scratch my back I scratch yours. Oh yeah I almost forgot "Were too uneducated to understand the complete dynamics of the situation" as Mr. Garcia stated in the Times Herald.

Facts

1) there is nothing to disclose. The sitting council members checked with the city attorney BEFORE they got involved with their involvement and since neither will benefit financially there is nothing to disclose.

Holy Family is the largest congegation in American Canyon and quite frankly, the most active. Parishoners are on the planning commission, city council, parks and community services commissions, are city employees and residents. Nothing nefarious going on. And contrary to the the cynical and conspiracy minded- have no intent "of taking over the city" as cited by a person wearing a "vote for coffey" shirt around town.

We are simply practicing our faith by being involved in the community.
And let me tell all, without any doubt- HOLY FAMILY IS NOT MISSING ANY MONEY as was insinuated by previous postings. I am the fund-raising coordinator and through my efforts and (a couple of other parishoners demonized on this site) paid off our property 5 years EARLY.

So George-get your facts straight before speading rumors. As a matter of fact-If you want to see our books- I can arrange it.

The article in the AC Eagle was to inform ALL citizens to avoid any perceived improprietary. We also have the option of pursing the same arrangement with any other developers, if we desire.
