Does anybody know what the city is planning to do at the end of this road-where the Waterton community starts. River access would be great. A marina or a park-there is a lot of potential there.

Funny you should ask. I am a member of the Friends of American Canyon Open Spaces and this is one of our main projects going on right now. One of our members, Mr. Barry Christain, is very involved with obtaining leagal access to the river using the old landfill access road. We are working out details with the Waste Management Board. There is a lot to be done and a lot of agencies to work with. There is, after all, an old landfill to work around with some toxic issues to deal with. There is Cargill salt ponds that are in the process of being restored to wetlands, and some of the property is owned by the Department of Fish and Game and is part of the Napa Solano Marshes. Also the City is working on reconstructing the Wetlands adjacent to Wetlands Edge Road. The City has dedicated over 1.4 miilion dollars to the clean up and rebuilding effort. The money comes mostly from a Cal-Fed grant for just this sort of project. And Ducks Unlimited is coming out to help. For more information Come to our next meeting July 13th in the Police Department Meeting Room at 6:00pm

That sounds good. Although opening up to the river would create more traffic going through, I think it would be good to be able to take kids fishing, walking down the river, etc. I think I might just go to that meeting.

Please Do!! This community has a lot of space that the general public is not aware of. And our group needs all the help we can get. You may be surprised at how much is going on behind the scenes to bring the public better access to the lands we already own as well as preserving the undeveloped areas for our children and grandchildren to enjoy long into the future. This is something positive we can do to make our City a better place to live and raise families.
