Eagle's lack of Style

Post by Guest »

People need to wake up and see the Eagle for what it is. It is a throwback from the Register. I can't believe how accepting the public is of those tasteless cartoons week after week. They are very disrespectful especially of the West family where the cartoonist uses Philip's name like it was a prop for a paycheck.

The editor continues to make rude and distasteful comments and never offers anything positive. He "thinks" he is being cute, but this non-Napa wannabe can't even get it together. He perpetuates the old school mentality that up valley is "better" than American Canyon.

Let's talk about the writers (that alone is stretching the truth). They too are throwbacks from the Echo and still write for the Echo. Can you say conflict of interest? While Luipold attempts to be upbeat with her columns, Rivera is always rude and negative except when he is trying get a free meal or ice cream cone. This guy claims to have civil pride? Give me a break that is not what I have heard.

And if you want to discuss morals let's talk about what goes on behind a family's door. Oh don't want to go there it may disrupt that good Catholic exterior.

Do any of these contributors have a degree of any kind? Do they even take the time to investigate, make calls, interview, or research?

Come on American Canyon don't be fooled into sending $25.00 for something that the new homes are receiving for free. Bet you didn't know that did you? Yes all of the new homes get it thrown on the driveway, but you older homes have to pay for a subscription. Is that fair?

I keep hoping that with the buyout the new owners will recognize a dead horse when they see one, but as I think about it they probably started the paper to pump more money from the buyer...too deep for me.

Anyway hold them accountable. If they claim to be a "community" newspaper then hold them to that standard. Don't let them embarrass or disgrace our town with bad and negative journalism.

I completely agree. But on our street my neighbor loves the Eagle and asks for mine all of the time. I didn't know why until one day I was over at her home and she showed me how perfect the 6 pages folded in half fit her bird's cage.

"Two" issues last a week just in time for the next toss. She even admitted she would subscribe just because it was so easy and fit so well.

I suppose from her point of view the Eagle is good company with the other birds of American Canyon and receiving the appropriate praise.

Free Eagle / Old News

Post by Guest »

Last night was the first time I rec'd the Eagle in my "old neighborhood" driveway. I really liked the article about the $5,000 for the 4th of July.
This old news was printed even after the Eagle had printed updated information regarding this sponsorship several weeks ago. Apparently, they don't even read their own paper...

i happen to enjoy the eagle more than any other paper here. And i must say, give them a break. Theise people DO go though stressfull things, like i dont know...deadlines maybe? Im VERY familular with deadlines for a publication. And i must say...its NOT easy! things will be outdated...you cant stop it. As for the phillip west cartoons...those are indeed wrong. Whoever does the cartoons should try to respect the west family a little bit.

I received my Eagle in my driveway ( I don't pay for a subscription) the other day. I glanced at the front page and noticed that it was already news that had been printed in all other papers as well as the Eagle itself. Straight up to the recycle bin I took it. I really dislike this paper, the way the writers just disgrace Am Can -

Well when it comes down to it, the paper is not just gonna disappear...so if people dont like it they should read another paper. It only makes sense. Also i get it aswell w/o paying for it...they should take note of the people who dont want it so they can give it to people who dont get it...i know so many people who want it and dont seem to get it. but thats my oppinion

I agree. If you dont like a paper just dont buy it or read it. I am glad we have numerous papers in our city, it would suck with just one paper. The last thing I want is some liberal piece of garbage newspaper like the san fransicko chronicle appearing in our city and our only source. Its not good when you have one company owning the newspapers, then you just get their side only. Be happy we got four papers in our city, whether you think they suck or not, and yea I have my favorites too, thats up to you really. The papers dont want to offend anybody either, especially if you're the mayor or high up official, thats just asking for it if you do. But yes, we must hold them accountable when any of them spue meaningless crap, and thats why we the citizens have a place here to voice our concerns because sadly the local papers wont let you, they all have their own bias and agendas. And when any of you voice your opinion in a meaningful manner, I will stand by and defend you, because I could care less of who I offend, your voice is more important, not my popularity or whos house I get invited to on friday night.

Eagle

Post by mindingcitybiz »

The Eagle has become worse since its incepetion last year. This last paper only had 3 advertisements from AMCAN businesses the rest were from Napa. I guess they needed the filler.

All the writers do is trash American Canyon. It seems they never see the good our community has to offer. Were a family here. Hey we may not all like our in-laws, but we can rise above our differences.

I feel the Napa/Solano Post gives more information about our community and what is going on in it than the Eagle. The only question I really have is why did the register who has treated amcam residents so poorly for years start the eagle here only after the Walmart issue was revealed. Is it because they want the big bucks advertisement?????????????

Maybe this is because all they see is all of us bickering at eachother constently...but we dont do that...right? (Wallmart, High School, Freeway, Luporini, Coffey, Leon, City Attourney, the Casino, Palbys, the roads, trailers infront of houses, boats infront of houses, Rancho Del Mar sign...need i say more?)

Hey AM06 you have to be joking right? Who is fighting? People have to talk things out some times your able to come to an understanding and sometimes you need a referee. I watch the city council meetings and it is quite clear ALL the council members get along and respect each other. The only people trashing our city council members is the Eagle. Is it because the Post is their competitor and own by one of the city council members? Come on read between the lines..............

Well..this is just silly...if any AMCAN business wants to pay advertising dollars, they can..the Eagle is not shutting out advertisers from anywhere..there happens to be more businesses and services located in Napa at this time and the ones in AMCAN don't want to advertise.

Newspapers survive on advertising revenue, so they will take it wherever they can get it..and it is not exactly like we are 100 miles away from Napa and cannot take advantage of their goods and services!

I think you all need to give the paper a chance. It does take time to smooth out wrinkles and get content squared away. We are lucky to have a paper devoted to our town only and have it weekly and cover more than just movie reviews, police and fire logs and restaurant reviews..

The other two monthlies around are cute to read..but sorry..I don't care about Paris the Dog and the Echo is monthly and cannot cover ongoing news once a month..

I personally have written to the publisher via email and gotten responses..if you don' like what you see..write them and don;t just complain here!

Anyway, see our amazing service based tourism economy! Does it work? Not really, but we can pretend it does!

Okay I will say this once and for all the Eagle is a rag. Many people have submitted letters to the editor and the only ones that seem to get publish are those blasting councilwoman coffey. Is this because they would are her competitors? Give me a break. American Canyon is a great place to live and the people here are wonderful. Were a family we don't always agree, but we still get along!

The Eagle is a HORRIBLE excuse for a newspaper. When I do waste my time reading an article, I usually have to reread it and then read it again, out loud, to figure out what message they are trying to convey. The typos, grammatical errors and misspelled words are an embarassment. Does anyone proof read? I worked for my high school paper and we had higher standards than the Eagle. No one expects greatness. Just please, whoever is writing and editing for this rag, take a course at the community college. Or at least buy a copy of Strunk and White.

But then, I should be fair, I am no more impressed with the Napa Register or the Times Herald. We need a reliable news source in this area. Hopefully a source that can at least attempt to disguise their juvenile attacks and biases a little better than what we have. Is this progressive California or some hick town in Arkansas where legalizing first cousin marriage is local government's top priority?

I moved to AmerCanyon over 4 months ago. I just discovered this website. I think this website is great. What is up with all the hating going on in this great town?
I think the Eagle is informative and well written. I have difficulty finding the papers in local stores. I finally got a subscription and worth every penny.
My family and I heard about 7/4/05 outing from some friends. It was great to see how well it was planned. The fireworks were great, too.

Anyone know about how I can get info on some of the civic groups? I would love to get involved.

Well when you receive the Napa Solano Post in your mail box it will show you a monthly calendar and has may listing for civic groups in American Canyon. It will also show you place to eat, get your body worked over, have your new home inspected and many other businesses here in American Canyon.

This is exactly the type of negative feedback that I am encountering since I have arrived in town. You may think alliances with your family members is fine (you brought it up). I think it's sick that you have to stoop to such a low level. Maybe you SHOULD move out of town!
If you don't like the paper, don't read it. Your type of feedback should be banned on this forum. It's offensive, mean spitited and extremely vulgar.
Stick to the facts and relevant issues. Make a point based on facts.

Just my opinion---but geez- your hatred crossed the line of informative and effective communication.

I just finished reading the "Letters to the Editor" in this week's Eagle. I found all three (Paul Maguire, Pastor Curry and Rosemarie Spann) letters to be quite interesting. As poor as some may view one paper over another we actually are fortunate to have so many publications to choose from.

I know about the Eagle. What else is available? As a means to come up to speed quickly are there websites with past issues I can read to acclamate myself to things that have happened?

What's with the war between the papers? I am laughing as I write this because I thought competition was designed to be healthy. It appears there's a real war going on. Am I correct?

You can go to http://www.napasolanopost.com to get caught up on all the local issues. Or you can go to http://www.napanews.com click on the heading American Canyon Eagle. Unfortunately, they stopped delivering my the citizens echo in my neighborhood almost a year ago and no the don't have a website.

Some of the anger toward the Eagle is probably because they copied the same format as the Echo and Post. The Eagle also took 2 of the writers for Echo. I tend to find what I am looking for in Post.

response to nasty comments

Post by guest »

My 2 Cents this forum was created to air our differences with humor, intellect and without malice. Your comments were actually more offensive and attacking than anything I have read on this thread.

Who are you responding for? And what are you responding to? As for the Eagle it is what it is and nothing more. But if you like it then fine who really cares? But if you are going to pay for late news you may as well want to just subscribe to the Register, the parent paper to the Eagle. That way you will get the same info daily for about $30.00 more.

Issa who is the Webmaster founded this forum and does a fine job "policing" it. It is an uncensored forum. If it angers you so much maybe you should not participate, then you wouldn't become so upset and bitter.

You asked how to get involved with civic groups and only one paper shows the clubs, and that is the Post. That is all you were told. It is just a fact. Just like the Echo prints the police and fire logs and the Eagle has the napa classifieds. Every paper offers something different. That is what America is freedom of choice.

But if you were an advertiser then you would want something that is free to every home and business, guaranteed distribution, and good content that is well read for a good value and that is the Post paper. That pretty much sums it up.

Wait a minute. I am being chastised for pointing out that incest form another posting is wrong? It's illegal and vulgar.

I'm surprised that the feedback I've gotten has already taken a negative turn. Not surprising. I guess misery loves company. Thanks for the 'warm" reception.

For the people actually answering my ?s, I appreciate it. Some of the feedback has been useful. That's what I thought these forums were for.
I will try to get more involved in the town's activities.

Some of the people writing here need to lighten up.

I always read about people should be registered on here. Can you please tell me how that makes a difference. And even if one registers, how does that make you feel like you know who they are? I mean with names like mindingcitybiz, pumpkin, neo, etc., how is this helpful. I would think the only person with access to personal data would be Issa.

No backbiting going on in town. Just people who are blinded by their beliefs to look at both sides of the issue. Many members of this particular forum willing to concentrate on on negatives in the city and "cindy worship".
LaVigneLola

what???

Post by LaVigneLola »

Positive threads have been created, but people always try to make them negative see "Pioneers in American Canyon".

As for the negative remarks, sometimes that is how you get people to listen and to be heard. That is how the police forum was created through negative police comments and now that forum is successful and the people like it.

As for "Cindy Worship" do you mean Cindy Crawford? These posters don't worship Cindy that's stupid. She just happens to put out a great paper that is free, fun and informative. She also happens to stick by her campaign promises and not rubber stamp incomplete projects or things that are not right. A single "no" vote is good enough for me. At least somebody is reading the material.

As for the rest well it is just common sense. Cindy won by a large majority during the last election. Many were new home owners who are computer saavy, it would clearly make sense that she would have the most support with this type of forum at this time would it not?

Think about it.....

Me thinks you protest to much. You say you look at both sides of an issue, but yet you still Cindy Bash. When is the last time you called Cindy and actually had a conversation with her. Have you asked Cindy why she voted no on a project? Have you asked her to provide you with documentation to prove her stance. Have you sat down with any of the council members and conversed with them your concerns about the city and the direction it is or isn't heading? Or do you just use this forum, the papers and town gossip to formulate your opinions? I believe it is hard to form an opinion about someone you don't know personally. haven't taken the time out to get know them and haven't reviewed their political stance to see if they are following through. Just one mans opinion.

Mindingcitybiz: I spoke to Cindy on Friday night at the plaza and when I heard her explaination for why she said no it actually sounded quite sensible. Now anyone who knows me, knows that I very rarely agree with Cindy, including Cindy herself, but there I was in agreement and would you believe it the sky never caved in nor was there any thunder claps rending in the air.

Just out of interest although I never agree with her I have to say that I find her company very interesting and I think she would be great fun on a girl's night out!

I am sure she will appreciate the compliment. For the record she is a blast with the girls night out mostly because she is so funny and makes friends with everybody where ever we go. Oh and she doesn't drink which lets the rest of us do so....LOL Which means she is the designated driver.

Her parties are a great fun too! We like her because she does keep to her campaign promises and sometimes you are the lonely man out. But that will change next year when we give her some company that she can rely on the get the votes we need for change.

Thanks for letting people know she is really nice.
