July 4th: Stay Safe American Canyon!

Post by nobody »

I hope everyone enjoys a safe and fun holiday! With that in mind, please don’t ruin your good time by getting in trouble for possessing or discharging fireworks. Even the “Safe and Sane” types are prohibited in American Canyon.

Your fireworks will be confiscated and you could be cited.

This is also one of the saddest days of the year for pet owners, due to so many frightened animals escaping their homes. If you can, move you pets inside for the night. When animals panic they get creative and escape, even from fenced backyards. Each year, we are called to help strays, dogs in roadways and dogs that have been hit by cars after escaping. A panicked dog will run miles from its house and be difficult to find.

When an animal must be captured, brought to the Animal Shelter in south Napa and then reclaimed by the owner, it is traumatic for the pet and an expensive lesson for the owner. Even if a dog is microchipped, it is helpful if the dog is also wearing a collar with easy-to-read tags. That way, we can quickly reunite the dog with their family and save the dog a trip to the shelter, as well as save the owner some money
